Frequently asked questions

Where do I find the manufacture date?

Check the back or inside of the alarm. Most units print a manufacture date directly on the unit, sometimes as a stamped code.

Do hardwired alarms need replacing too?

Yes. The 10-year replacement rule applies to hardwired alarms just as much as battery-only ones.

What if I have more than 6 alarms?

Print the checklist and track the rest on paper, or run the check again in a second pass.

Is this legally required?

Placement and replacement guidance is commonly based on NFPA 72, but exact legal requirements can vary by state and by whether you own or rent.
